ABSTRACT : Breast cancer, is a major public health problem for women in Iraq and the top of the commonest ten cancer Deaths by site in Iraqi female. Twist is a transcriptional factor partic the ipates in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) mechanism in variety of malignancies, such as breast cancer. To evaluate the expression of Twist in Iraqi patients with breast carcinoma. A total of thirty paraffin blocks included in this study which were divided into 20 sample of breast cancer blocks and 10 sample of normal breast tissues. The samples were subjected to immunohistochemical technigue using Anti-Twist 2 polyclonal antibody. The obtained data from this study indicate that most patients were positive for Twist2 expression and significant correlation of Twist 2 expression with breast cancer with a ratio 67% and 33% of cytoplasmic and nuclear expression, respectively. There are increased evidences of the contribution of Twaist 2 in the development of breast cancer makes it very interesting protein to become an important target for cancer treatment.
Key words : Breast cancer, Twist, metastasis, Epithelial- Mesenchymal Transition (EMT).
